Digital Photography
Course Syllabus
I. Course Description: This is a full semester 5 credit course that focuses on the all aspects of the digital camera including the manual camera functions and shooting techniques as we will not being using the camera on automatic settings. Photoshop will be used as our editing tool. Lectures, demonstrations and Power Point presentations will be given. Researching information, planning projects, and applying plans shall be a large part of this course. This course is designed to help the student with visual observations and to increase their creativity and knowledge of photography.
II. Instruction Philosophy: This course is for the student interested in the Digital Photography. Students will explore all aspects of the digital camera by using the tool to capture images in the manual mode. Students will learn to input, edit and output images using current technology. This course will enable students to become more observant of their surroundings and teach them to be ethical photographers. Students will be able to tell a story through visual image and will begin to build a photographic portfolio making them more competitive if entering college for art.
I. Course Goals:
I. Students will study the History of Photography and how it evolved to the present day digital imaging (1.1, 1.5)
II. Students will demonstrate the ability to use the digital camera as an art tool and create images using the digital camera (1.2, 1.3)
III. Students will be able to recognize, describe and use the techniques of the deferent types of photography including but not limited to Photojournalism, Documentary Photography, Fine Art Photography, and Portraiture etc. (1.1, 1.3)
IV. Students will master the skills of the digital camera by executing exercises and solving the problems of each assignment (1.1, 1.2, 1.3)
V. Students will demonstrate the ability to use current technology by imputing, editing and outputting images (1.2, 1.3)
VI. Students will be involved in constructive classroom critiques enabling them to understand their accomplishments and help them to improve deficiencies (1.4)
